Liquid Drops in a Viscous Fluid under the Influence of Gravity and Surface Tension
نویسنده
چکیده
A drop of a viscous fluid in an infinite reservoir of another fluid will move under its own weight if the surrounding fluid has different density. This paper is concerned with steady motions, i.e. the motions of the two fluids are indeFendent of time with respect to an observer attached to the interface between them. We assume that the shape of this bounding surface is governed by surface tension.

Lattice Boltzmann Simulation of Deformation and Breakup of a Droplet under Gravity Force Using Interparticle Potential Model
Abstract In this paper interparticle potential model of the lattice Boltzmann method (LBM) is used to simulate deformation and breakup of a falling droplet under gravity force. First this model is applied to ensure that the surface tension effect is properly implemented in this model. Two tests have been considered. First, it has been checked an initial square drop in a 2D domain can freely def...
متن کاملInstabilities of Thin Viscous Liquid Film Flowing down a Uniformly Heated Inclined Plane
Instabilities of a thin viscous film flowing down a uniformly heated plane are investigated in this study. The heating generates a surface tension gradient that induces thermocapillary stresses on the free surface. Thus, the film is not only influenced by gravity and mean surface tension but also the thermocapillary force is acting on the free surface. Moreover, the heat transfer at the free su...

We studied the growth of viscous fingers as a Laplacian growth by conformal mapping. Viscous fingers grow due to Saffman-Taylor instability in the interface between two fluids, when a less viscous fluid pushes a more viscous fluid. As there was an interest in the rectangular Hele-Shaw cell, we solved the Laplacian equation with appropriate boundary conditions by means of conformal mapping tech...
متن کاملMinimizers of anisotropic surface tensions under gravity: higher dimensions via symmetrization
We consider a variational model describing the shape of liquid drops and crystals under the influence of gravity, resting on a horizontal surface. Making use of anisotropic symmetrization techniques, we establish existence, convexity and symmetry of minimizers for a class of surface tensions admissible to the symmetrization procedure. In the case of smooth surface tensions, we obtain uniqueness...
متن کاملLiquid drops and surface tension with smoothed particle applied mechanics
Smoothed particle applied mechanics (SPAM), also referred to as smoothed particle hydrodynamics, is a Lagrangian particle method for the simulation of continuous flows. Here we apply it to the formation of a liquid drop, surrounded by its vapor, for a van der Waals (vdW) fluid in two dimensions. The cohesive pressure of the vdW equation of state gives rise to an attractive, central force betwee...
